Lena

On September 6, 2019, at just 21 months old, Lena Andrianakos, aka Supergirl, was diagnosed with High-Risk B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Just days after her diagnosis, she began intense chemotherapy treatment that lasted 854 days. Lena courageously completed her treatments in January 2022.

Throughout her battle, Lena showed remarkable resilience and strength. Even from her hospital bed, her infectious smile and quick wit brightened up the room. Lena is a true inspiration.

"Supergirl, you're brave, you're brilliant and you're so resilient."

CHRISTINA, LENA’S MOM AND CO-FOUNDER OF THE LENA FUND

Our Founders

The Lena Fund was founded by Christina Kadas, Lena’s mom, and Sophia Kadas, Lena’s aunt, inspired by their family's journey with childhood cancer.

For her 30th birthday, Sophia chose to forgo traditional gifts and instead invited friends and family to donate to the Montreal Children’s Hospital in Lena’s honour. To mark the occasion, she pledged to cut 10 inches off her hair.

The response was extraordinary – thanks to the generosity of their loved ones and the broader community, Sophia’s 30th birthday initiative raised $30,000. This overwhelming support fueled Christina and Sophia’s desire to make a lasting difference. Together, they established The Lena Fund to provide ongoing support to the Montreal Children’s Hospital and to the children they care for.

Having experienced the profound impact of a childhood cancer diagnosis within their own family, Christina and Sophia are dedicated to improving the lives of children with cancer and their families. Through The Lena Fund, they organize inclusive initiatives and events that not only raise vital funds for the Children’s but also foster a sense of community and hope for those affected.

The Rainbow

A powerful symbol of hope and positivity.

At the time of Lena’s diagnosis, her family was determined to find a way to remain strong for their little girl. In that difficult time, they came across a quote that deeply resonated with them “After every storm there is a rainbow, no matter how long it takes to show up”.

This message became a source of hope. The Lena Fund’s logo, which features a pastel rainbow, serves as a symbol that brighter days lie beyond the greatest challenges.

Inspire

Lena has shown us all that a positive mindset is a powerful force in overcoming life’s toughest challenges. Even throughout her treatments, she embraced life fully – finding joy in the simple pleasures. She laughed, played, sang, and danced through it all. Her strength, resilience and spirit are truly inspiring. Our hope is that Lena’s story continues to serve as a beacon of hope, encouragement, and motivation for others who are facing their own battles. #LensInspire
